Address blocks are by IANA who own the entire address space. At the moment, they administer 2000::/3 for global unique internet addresses. There are five Regional Internet Registries or RIRs.

  • AFRINIC: Africa

  • APNIC: Asia/Pacific

  • ARIN: North America

  • LACNIC: Latin America and some Caribbean Islands

  • RIPE NCC: Europe, Middle east and Central Asia

Addresses are assigned to interfaces and interface are expected to have multiple addresses.
