Routing Protocols

PreviousThe last 64 bits

Last updated 1 year ago

We have dynamic routing for IPv6, as you would expect.

RIPng

There is a version of RIP which is compatible with IPv6, and it has all the disadvantages of RIPv2 for IPv4. UDP port 521 is used and you enable RIP on a per interface basis.

OSPFv3

OSPF supports IPv6 from , the packet structure has been modified to remove and dependence on IPv4 addresses. There are new Link State Advertisements (LSAs).

BGP

is the most recent revision and dates from 2006. It was intended to be independent of the address family it is used with.
