In this demonstration, I'm going to set up VLANs. For the moment, do not worry too much about what a VLAN is, we will cover it!
Disconnect the two VPCs. You cannot change this switch configuration when its connected.
Right click on the switch and select Configure.
There are a range of configuration options available.
I can add or delete ports. Add port 8
It is a bit unintuitive to change the port type. Select the port, use the drop down to change its type, and then press Add. Change port 8 to a dot1q port.
As with many physical switches, by default port types are for access in VLAN 1. To changes VLAN id, select the port, use the drop down to change the VLAN, and then press add.
Move port 2 and 3 to VLAN 2.
Now connect the VPCs to ports 1 and 2. A ping test should fail; they are in different VLANs.
Disconnect from port 2 and reconnect to port 0 and 1. A ping test should now work.
Hover over the switch. You should see all the connection information.
Note that there is no power option and no console, it is an unmanaged switch and an emulation.
Save your work and exit, you can then shut down GNS3.
