GNS3 on Hyper-V
For students using VDI or Azure Labs
You should have already completed the Simple GNS3 install. You can use Hyper-V on the University VDI, in Azure labs, or on a home computer.
If you search for Hyper-V you will be prompted to Turn Windows features on or off. On an old version of Windows, this may be in the control panel. Turn on the Hyper-V features and click OK.
You must now restart.

After restart, I log back in again. The Hyper-V manager app should be available and I run it.

On the GNS3 Downloads page, I click to download the GNS3 VM.

I am given several options, I select Hyper-V. At time of writing, this was over 1GB, you need decent broadband.

The download is in a ZIP format, you need to extract the files, I do so in the Downloads folder.
There is a PowerShell script create-vm.ps1 which I now run. Make sure there are no errors.
I start the new VM.
Next I open GNS3 and go to Edit->Preferendes->GNS3 VM.
I select Enable the GNS3 VM and under virtualization engine, I select Hyper-V and click OK.

After a few seconds, I can see the additional server.
