Background

These notes are intended to introduce some of the terminology and techniques we use to manage changes in our software development environment; and much more! I am going to base this section on GIT and GITHUB, keeping things simple and appropriate for a scripting environment.

This collection of notes has its origin in teaching from c. 2015 and I have updated them annually.

You are expected to complete this content in week 4.

In these documents, there are several key terms. These will be italicized. You may need to look up these terms to get a full understanding of them.

Commands are generally shown in bold.

Where I use powers, I show then using the caret symbol, e.g. 2^4 = 16.
